Making sure the beer can is open and filled only half way, lower the chicken onto the open can so that it is sitting upright. 4. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees, roast for an hour, and then raise the heat to 425 degrees and cook for another 10 minutes to add crisp to the skin .
Heat the grill to medium/high heat so that the temperature of the grill is around 375F . Near the end of the cooking time, baste the chicken with some BBQ sauce and close the lid for a few more minutes so the sauce glazes on the skin of the bird. Cook until the internal temperature of the chicken is 165F .
Place the chicken on the grill and turn off the burner or burners directly below it, leaving the burners around it on (so the chicken will grill over indirect heat). Grill for about 45 minutes to 1 hour or until the chicken’s internal temprature at the thickest part reaches 165 degrees F.
