A runza (also called a bierock , krautburger, fleischkuche, or kraut pirok) is a yeast dough bread pocket with a filling consisting of beef, cabbage or sauerkraut, onions, and seasonings. The runzas sold by the Runza restaurant chain are rectangular while many of the bierocks sold in Kansas are round buns.

Freezing Runzas : If you ‘re going to freeze your Runzas , first put them on baking sheet and then place them on a freezer shelf for about an hour. Once they ‘ve started to firm up, transfer them to freezer bags. Bake for 25 minutes – rather than 20 minutes – at 350 F, straight from the freezer.
