“ CHOUFFE DOESN’T MEAN ANYTHING!” So they launched this word that meant nothing into the world. “It’s probably the question I’m asked most often in my life, and will be asked most often in the future” – Chris Bauweraerts, Co-founder of the Achouffe Brewery (“My Chouffe Story” 2012)
The Brasserie d’Achouffe is a Belgian brewery based in Achouffe . It was founded in 1982 by two brothers-in-law, Pierre Gobron and Christian Bauweraerts, as a hobby.
Duvel is a natural beer with a subtle bitterness, a refined flavour and a distinctive hop character. Duvel ferments for the first time in tanks at 20 to 26°C. The brewer uses his own culture for this. The original yeast strain, which Albert Moortgat himself selected in the 1920’s, originates from Scotland.
