Locals Call it “Root Beer Falls ” The dark brown color in the water is nothing to worry about. This color originates from the tannins that leach from the cedar swamp at the start of the Tahquamenon River.

Yes, the Park Service actually has wheelchairs that can be used at the Upper Falls . The trail grade is paved and gradual. There are some steps to reach some of viewing platforms but the main sites are accessible .
If you think swimming in waterfalls is cool, you MUST go to the Lower Falls ! I live in the DR and we can pretty much swim in any waterfalls there. The lower falls at Tahquamenon Falls State Park absolutely does!
