The value of a vintage beer cans can run the spectrum of virtually nothing to upwards of $25,000. The three factors that impact a cans worth are: rarity, desirability and quality. Any can missing one or two of these factors will suffer in value .
Certain brands and styles of beer cans are especially valuable because of their rarity. Steel Canvas, a shop specializing in vintage beer cans , reports that valuable cans include rare examples like Playmate and Jame’s Bond’s 007. On the other hand, common cans like Billy Beer and MASH Beer aren’t worth much.
Well, this is where MY beer can collection started, and every kid (in Minnesota at least) had to complete the set of Schmidt scenics. But 90% of the scenic cans are worth between . 10 and a buck each.
Look along the seam for the year on most Schlitz cans . Tax Statements: Look and see if there is a tax statement on the can , along the lines of “Internal Revenue Tax Paid” or “Withdrawn Free of Internal Revenue Tax” if so, then the can dates before March 1950. Before that date brewers had to include a tax statement.

Internet Classified – there are some websites that are good venues for selling cans . You can try Craig’s List for common beer cans or large collections. Garage Sale / Flea Market – if you have common or recent cans this may be your only option. Antique Shop – maybe your local shop has interest in your cans .
If the beer can is not on the list then the can likely has a value of about $1.00. Almost all aluminum cans have no collectible value . It is not uncommon to find pull tabs that are mistake cans (ie missing a color).
Just a reminder, all containers > 100 mls and up to 630mls are worth 10 cents . All containers > 630 mls are worth 20 cents . The only exception is cans; all cans under 1 litre are worth 10 cents , and those 1 litre and above are worth 20 cents .
One estimate of the number of Billy Beer cans made is 2 BILLION. As a result, it is worth about 25 cents at most and then only if it is in very good shape, and if you can find a collector who actually needs one.
By law, you can bring up to 50 aluminum, 50 glass, 50 plastic, and 50 bi-metal California Redemption Value (CRV) containers in a single visit and request to be paid by count. You will be paid the full CRV redemption of 5 cents or 10 cents on each container.

Schmidt Beer is back. In May, the Stroh Brewery Co. Since 1990, Schmidt has been brewed at the G. Heileman Brewery in La Crosse, Wis.
Benbow says they caught on quickly, and by 1980, most breweries had completely switched from pop-top cans to StaTabs. So, long story short, if you found a pop-top or pull-tab beer can, Benbow says you can safely assume it was made between 1963 and 1980 .
The date you see on most beer bottles are not expiration dates but ‘pull dates ,’ which are the dates retailers are instructed to pull beers off a shelf if they haven’t sold yet. The beer inside hasn’t expired, but it’s not longer considered “brewery fresh” and most companies no longer want it to be sold.
