NOW: Jax Beer is gone, the brand having been sold off in 1974 to the Texas-based Pearl Brewery — now Pabst — which no longer brews it.
Many people equate the story of Jax Beer with the old Jackson Brewery in New Orleans. However, the true Jax was produced and bottled in Northwest Jacksonville from 1914 to 1956. In 1956, the rights to the drink was sold to the famed brewery in New Orleans.
New Orleans Lager and Ale Brewing Company (NOLA) is located on Tchoupitoulas Street. It offers 6 beers including the charmingly named Hopitoulas IPA , as well as American Blonde and English Dark Ales . All 6 offerings are sure to please those with a hankering for something out of the ordinary.

In 2008, Diageo sold it to the Boston Brewing Company, the brewer of Samuel Adams beer . Pabst retained the license to Schaefer and today outsources a reformulated brew it labels ” Schaefer ” and sells in niche markets in the United States.
While its smaller labels linger on today, its main label Falstaff Beer went out of production in 2005. The rights to the brand are currently owned by Pabst Brewing Company.
This year, Hamm’s took bronze in the American-Style Lager or American-Style Cream Ale category of the World Beer Cup as judged by the Brewers Association. In 2017, a group of craft brewers tabbed Hamm’s as the best macro beer in its blind tasting.

New Orleans Municipal Code Sec. 54-404 allows anyone to carry an open container of alcohol in the New Orleans French Quarter on the public streets, sidewalks, parks, or public rights-of-way as long as the container is not an opened glass container . The state of Louisiana has an open container law.
